We can get YOUR work published

As you may know we have for some time now run another part of Camera Images publishing limited edition art photographs. More recently we have become involved in the GB Pictures project which is a joint venture involving a range of businesses and organisations, plus a growing franchise network of local art consultants who sell the work. Our work, is the flagship brand, Camera Images within this large project.

We also provide the training to both the franchisees when appointed and the brand coordinators on an ongoing basis, as well as being very involved in the project overall.

Another of the Brands featured, Cotswold Pictures is a far wider limited edition publisher, and will be publishing work by other artists and photographers. We are involved in selecting the work for this brand, which means that work we come across that is up to standard, can be considered for inclusion in the brand.

2 minute primer on this market

Like authors and some others, photographers and artists get paid royalties on the sale of their published work. The royalties across the industry, and there are quite a few limited edition publishers, are usually about 6% of publishers receipts. You can identify some other publishers if you want by looking at the website of the picture framers organisation, the Fine Art Trade Guild. We are not a member of this. If a publisher sells disposable art, the individual prices are low, on the other hand the quality art that is being marketed under the GB Pictures brands are permanent, electronically chipped, highest quality art for collectors at gallery prices, and goes out already framed, which means that as a photographer you are not getting 6% on the cost of a low cost print, but on the complete framed product at a far higher price. So the first part of making this pay for you is to get the price up that your percentage is based upon.

The second part is getting the volume up, and this is why we were involved in getting the GB Pictures project running, with eventually several hundred franchises out putting on exhibitions, and making other sales every month the sales volume will be many times what we could manage on our own or by setting up a sales team to promote the work through galleries.

The third part is avoiding having to pay for masters to be made, proofing, returns, and the like, and definitely avoiding any idea that you pay for or towards the marketing or promotion of your work. Also avoid deals that mention remaindering, this means dumping your work to get back their print costs, for often a very small amount per image, if they lose interest, or just need to generate more cash flow.

The fourth part is of course getting your work selected.

So you want a high margin per item, a quantity of sales and no costs to you, and to have your work selected.

How the Cotswold Pictures deal works

Artistic work, be it paintings, photographed, re-mastered and edited old images, or whatever is selected on the basis that it is of quality and there is considered to be a market for the work. If it's a painting or similar we photograph it for them, if it's a photograph we may be involved in the final editing if this is required.

This brand pays 6% of receipts, and only sells framed quality work, and only through the franchise network, produces only prints to order, so there never is any stock that could or would ever be remaindered. There is never any cost to you for anything, you can visit exhibitions where your work is displayed to assist if you want and while many franchisees may feature more of your work if you do, it's not a requirement or expected.

How to get your work selected

You can see the various sections, including the Cotswold Pictures brand sub web, on the GB Pictures public website, and the GB Pictures Team website, or go along to one of the public presentations for artists and photographers, to see current events see www.gb-pictures.co.uk/events.

These give you several ways to get your work selected, without having to come to see us. Alternatively you can let us see your work, and we can select work to be directly included and sort out and sign the contracts on behalf of GB Pictures.

If you are a client and coming for training, then bring along some of the work you feel may be able to be used.

If not, but you feel you need help in tidying up the editing and perfecting the images to exhibition standard then look at our edit and print days, where we can help you to achieve this.

If you feel that you already have work that is of a high enough standard, then just tell us and we will try to either invite you along to show us your work here or at one of the presentations we are helping GB Pictures with around the country. We will get around to seeing what you have to offer, but of course this has to be fitted into a busy schedule, and there is no cost to you at all for this. If you are not a client then there is no charge, but also no free advice or help, we just say yes or no to images, and sort out terms for those that are acceptable.

If you want to start publishing your own work yourself, then see our suggested training day on this, please note we cannot see your work for free and give you half a days free advice, or just sort out your colour balance, printing or other aspects of your work, unless you are a client and this is a part of the service we are offering you. Often these appointments are arranged to fit spare time slots so we are unlikely to be able to extend the time on that day in any event to do more than look. I am labouring the point here as we do get some people who feel that we can just give them half a days free help. I wonder if they also expect their garage to do a half day free service on their car.

NEW - see 'shorts', they are an ideal solution for this and many other needs.
