As an alternative, and suitable for users of all cameras, a collection of 1 to 1 single topic Masterclasses, on their own website now, for those who have mastered the basics and would rather look in depth at a specific area like focus, sharpness and depth of field, or black and white photography, if you want to see these then click here. We have a range of business courses helping anyone to turn their interest in photography into a profitable business, as well as providing training to some franchisees. Many professional photographers will discover new income areas or how to increase existing ones, as well as how to develop any business. We are both directors of a number of companies, covering other areas as well as photography. We are based in a large picturesque property in Cheltenham, the centre of the Cotswolds, with a wide range of photo opportunities both here and really close.

We have become the leaders in one to one training on Nikon cameras, to suit just about any need or interest that you have. Photographers have travelled from all over the world to experience 1 to 1 training with us. In our experience the amount of knowledge and range of experience varies greatly from one professional photographer to another. Some are highly technically competent, while others may have kept their cameras in automatic mode. Some have a lot of marketing ability making the most of many situations where others maybe have been more interested in the artistic than the marketing side. Most professionals will already know one end of the camera from the other, have at least some knowledge of photography, the amount of course varies very greatly from one person to another, and with so many speciality areas, few can get the opportunity to gain experience in a very wide array of areas. Some may define a professional as a person who undertakes photography for reward, and although in part we appreciate this, we would also define a professional as a person who achieves reliably what they set out to and can take on a wide range of commercial assignments with confidence. While the enthusiast can take a hundred shots and show one, a professional commissioned to undertake a task has to be able to make them all succeed and to do so in a time efficient and cost sensitive manner. Generally the further along the path a photographer has travelled, the more they can see that perhaps one day they would like to experience. With the consultancy side, and a large R&D programme, developing new areas of photography, and meeting people with specific interests that we put together training for, we are lucky in that we get to develop our skills and experience over a far wider area than others. Selecting which is right for you For most professionals and 'would be' professionals this is the easiest decision to make, in that they will want to maximise the amount of knowledge and experience that they can get, and avoid waiting for others to have items explained to them, that they are already very familiar with. For this reason just about all professional photographers select one to one tuition. I suspect some would also be reluctant to ask questions in a group with enthusiasts who have perhaps developed greater technical knowledge. Quite a few people have a good film background but have found they have not got all the benefits from digital that they had hoped for, or have been disappointed by the results they have produced from some of the latest cameras. While we have occasionally found problems with cameras brought in, usually it's a case of not having fully understood all the options available, and how to get spectacular results from this technology. Where necessary we can compare cameras, compare lenses and work with the cameras tethered to computers to see instant results. Generally people achieve the least the larger the group and the more, the more individual the attention. Tutors know that they cover far less ground with a group than with an individual. A group of three people achieves about five times the subject coverage as a larger group, and an individual on their own achieves about three times what a group of three do. You can see this means that for those that want to achieve a great deal faster, in 3 to 5 days you can cover what would take a group of people attending a residential course a couple of months to achieve. If you have just one day available, then starting with the HNK course, in a day you become confident and competent, you start by very quickly going over the basics of photography, going fast over what you already understand or can follow and slowing down where necessary to look and experiment, look through many lenses, have a short introduction to Nikon Capture NX editing, get to understand your cameras controls and menus fully and far more. With more days you can become proficient in editing, mastering flash, macro, and many other specialist areas. When you take more courses including those with some other photographic training providers you can qualify for discounts. Some prefer a more discussion based approach and come to see us for a day or more with a list of points or topics they want to look at, we are equally able to work with this approach, although having some idea in advance helps as we can get equipment out and make sure all items are available that will be required. If you want to use this approach book with the course code EXE. Perhaps you would rather look in depth at a specific area like focus, sharpness and depth of field. Perhaps exposure or black and white photography, or put a programme together to look at many of these areas in depth over a period. If so then you may like to look at our other range of training under the name Photography Skills, 'Beyond the Basics'.
